Versatile Amelia Sow is Canada's No. 1 Cage Prospect

By Michael Clarkson

Making Team Canada is just one of Amelia Sow’s lofty goals.

More importantly, she wants to develop her game to help the FEIA Lady Falcons win the Women’s National Preparatory Basketball Association championship next season.

But how does one improve after being named the WNPBA Player of the Year for 2025-26?

“I want to be in better shape than anybody else,” she says. “My shot needs more consistency and I want to develop my defence where I can cover every position.”

In today’s brave new world of top athletes getting boatloads of money through the Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) system, Amelia has had offers from 27 universities, including Maryland, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan State. “I know I could make a lot of money. It’s factor. But I’m not going to base my decision on it.”

And her final goal is to make the WNBA after college with her Plan B becoming a criminal psychologist.

The confident, hard-working Sow will be entering her Grade 12 year at FEIA in September and she believes the Falcons should be able to win the nationals. “This year, we had a lot of new people, but it was still a very good year.” They were the best team in league play but lost in the national tournament.

Sow credits FEIA head coach Handel Kipp with creating a family. “He preached teamwork, We before Me and we stuck to it.”

She was a prime example of sacrifice, turning down a tryout with Team Canada to play for the Falcons in the national prep championships. “That showed character, big time leadership,” said Kipp. “She’s stands on team, on principle, and I have respect for that.”

Kipp calls Amelia “a jack of all trades,” a well-rounded guard-forward dribbler, defender and playmaker, who averaged 22 points per game with a high basketball IQ.

The fact she hasn’t made the Canadian national team yet “gives me a chip on my shoulder.” She was also the MVP at Basketball Without Borders in El Salvador in 2025 and is ranked in the top 30 prospects by ESPN.

Sow was born in Quebec City to parents Marie-Helene Pedneau and Samuel Audet-Sow, who were pro basketball players in Europe and have trained her through the years.

Amelia competes in the off-season for youth programs Become One Canada Elite and the Under Armour Basketball Circuit in the U.S.
