Lady Falcons Flying High For Canada

By Michael Clarkson

The red colours of our country are becoming more and more intertwined with our school.

Two of FEIA’s Lady Falcons have been named to the Canadian Under-17 women’s basketball team for the upcoming World Championships.

Returning guard Portia Reisen and newly-acquired Jordyn Nohr will represent Canada at the tournament in Czechia July 11-19.

A third Falcon, Amelia Sow, likely would have made the team but she chose to play for FEIA in this past season’s playoffs rather than go to the Team Canada tryouts. She was recently voted the best female high school player in the country for 2025-26.

“It’s exciting for us to be represented on the inernational level,” says Falcons’ head coach Handel Kipp, who has developed dozens of premier players in his four years here. “Portia helped us to have another good season and Jordyn is a savvy point guard.”

Nohr just committed to Fort Erie after playing last year for Capital Courts of Ottawa. She and Reisen had previously suited up for Canada’s Under-16 squad. She’s already had scholarship offers from Eastern Michigan University and North Dakota.

That brings the number to 30 of FEIA athletes (25 from basketball) who have represented Canada. Many others have played for other nations.

The quick, explosive 5-foot, 8-inch Portia is considered perhaps the best player in Canada for her age, going into Grade 11 this September. Her skill was seen early; as an elementary-aged player, she was the MVP of the Ontario Basketball Association in 2023-24 for the ONL-X team in her hometown Ottawa.

The 5-foot, 10-inch Nohr, a native of Langley, B.C., will be in her graduating year. “Jordyn is a high-volume player who will help us out a lot next season,” said Kipp, who is still recruiting to fill out his roster. “We’re excited to bring her onboard.”

A solid core of those who helped the Falcons to a successful 2025-26 season will return, including Sow, Lexee Anderson, Jaeda Tomlin, and Kelly-Anna Hyacinthe, although Camille Pangonis has recently secured a cage scholarship to Indiana University and Lisa Sergi has transferred to PHH Prep in Phoenix.

As well, Danyelle London won a scholarship to the University of Illinois Chicago and Nina Visnjevac is off to American University.

Jessica Roque, of Mississauga and Waterloo University, will be the coach for Canada’s Under-17 women’s team.

The Falcons open their 2026-27 season with the Edge Invitational in Calgary, Sept. 18-20.
