FEIA Grad Sinia Gubser Played for a Championship Women's Pro Hockey Team

Sinia Gubser was disappointed with her injury-plagued first season in pro hockey, but the FEIA graduate remains hopeful for the future.

Following hip surgery in December, she missed all but seven games of the 2025-26 season for EV Zug Frauen of the Post Finance Women’s League in her native Switzerland.

However, she was on hand to watch her team become national champions with a 6-3 victory over SC Bern before 3,824 fans in March to win their playoff series 3-1.

“It’s a team sport and I was super happy for them but on the other hand more frustrating since I missed (nearly) the whole season,” she said. With Zug, she had four assists in seven matches.

Forward Sinia was born in Lachen, Switzerland, and started playing hockey with boys at age six. Her early role models were NHL stars Sidney Crosby and Evander Kane, Alina Muller of the Swiss national team and Boston Fleet in the Professional Women’s Hockey League.

She went to FEIA because “I really wanted to be part of building something new and amazing.” In her early hockey development, she credited FEIA coaches Carley Blomberg and Pete Montana “who taught me valuable lessons that I continue to apply in my everyday life. Carley is an exceptional coach and individual who consistently pushed me to improve and challenge myself to be comfortable in the uncomfortable. Pete is an amazing coach and human whose kindness and support created an environment where I can grow. They taught me the importance of discipline, accountability, and resilience. Showing up every day with the right mindset, learning from mistakes and continuing to push forward.”

In her fourth and final season with FEIA, Gubser was fifth in league scoring with four goals and two assists in 10 games as the Falcons took second place in the National Girls Hockey League in the United States.

During that campaign, Gubser was made assistant captain. “Being a person my teammates could look up to was an incredible feeling and it motivated me to be the best version of myself,” she said. “We pushed each other to high standards and built an environment based on trust, respect and hard work. Together we built an environment that encouraged new additions to uphold our legacy and carry forward a commitment to high standards.”

Sinia added that, “On the ice, I have made notable improvements in my game, becoming more confident and composed with the puck and most importantly I have learned how to trust myself in high-pressure situations.”

Returning to her home country this season was “the perfect opportunity. The EV Frauen offered me the perfect package: professional structures, optimal training conditions, and a competitive team with big goals.”

EV Zug has not offered her a contract for next season and she’s seeking opportunities with other pro teams. Mentally tough, according to Montana, she'll likely succeed.
